SEO Tools Review: SEOmoz Pro Membership

Just for the record, I am not being paid or influenced in any way to write this review. This is 100% honest feedback.

About two months ago I signed up for SEOmoz’s pro membership. I decided it would be very valuable to sign up for the membership for a couple of reasons:

  • I was looking for a way to bounce new ideas that I had and see how I could improve on them. I find that having someone to play devil’s advocate is very valuable to getting the most out of a new SEO strategy.
  • I was looking for new ideas. I’ve been in the industry for a couple of years now, and every day I’m eager to come up with a new strategy that will help my clients get more conversions. I’m only one man though, so I knew that I would be able to get the motors running by getting advice from a very knowledgeable SEOmoz staff.

What I love about the SEOmoz membership

I think my favorite thing is the Q&A. You get to ask any question to the SEOmoz staff and they’ll give you advice and tricks that you almost certainly haven’t thought of to help solve your problem. You can either ask it privately or publicly (meaning that other Pro members can see their responses). In questions that I’ve asked, I’ve received multiple responses from different Mozzers, and the advice couldn’t have been better. They answer your question with confidence, and usually give you more than one method to solve your problem.

I’m also a very big fan of their SEO Tips section. A couple of times a month the SEOmoz staff will reveal one of their secrets to promoting sites. I must admit, I had my doubts at first, but they definitely impressed me. Rand once said at a conference that you can learn about 90% of everything there is to know about SEO online, but there is also that 10% which everyone holds on to. Your SEOmoz pro membership will give you access to that 10% of information that bloggers hold onto. The information is invaluable and I found myself starting to think outside the box and come up with a few secrets of my own because of it.

The SEO toolbox. For the last year or so, I’ve tried to compile all the tools I use in an easy to access manner. It was always a struggle for me to do that, and I yearned for a one-stop toolbox that could speed up my process. The SEOmoz Toolbox is exactly what I’d been looking for. The tools are very reliable (in terms of functionality and the results they return), and there is a number of tools that you can’t find free elsewhere. I’ve noticed a large boost in critical information that I need in order to get my websites the high-results I need.

I could go on and on about the great information you get at your fingertips (thorough guides on various aspects of your SEO strategy, access to strong link building resources, great SEO analytics, etc.). The SEOmoz pro membership is like the Willy Wonka factory of SEO – offering all the advice you have been dreaming of in one central location. I would strongly recommend that you get your golden ticket and catch up on what you’ve been missing.

What features I’d like to see in the future

Although the SEOmoz staff is already churning out numerous blog posts, I think it would be really neat to have a membership-only side of the blog. I wouldn’t expect anywhere near the amount of posts they already put out, but I think that 3-4 premium content posts a month would be very valuable.

I’d also love to have access to more guides like their free SEO cheat sheets. I know there is a lot more they could add to them to give them a premium feel, and it would be great to have additional “did we do this?” checklists for my accounts and even for training purposes.

Final thoughts

Overall, I think this is a great service. I was skeptical when they first offered the membership, but they have really exceeded my expectations. Bravo Mozzers.

I am still weary of paying for membership, but your post helped their case a bit :)

  2. Kevin Gibbons Says:

Nice review, we’ve been signed up for a year and although I don’t really use the Q&A and the tools too much (but really should) it’s definitely well worth the price for the expert tips and guides alone.

We’ve also just signed up for the online training vids to help with a couple of new starters, two videos in so far but they’re looking very useful so far. Great work Mozzers! :D

I think most of SEO Moz tools can be found on the internet for free, but it’s nice to have them all in one place. The articles are well-written and very helpful. I used their list of places to build links, but thought I could’ve done better randomly searching the internet for free web directories than by using their list.

i haven’t used the q & a yet, but am looking forward to it! It was definitely worth the money for the first month, but I don’t know about next.

I am very glad to hear you are happy with your membership. I should be releasing a new cheat sheet within the month. Let me know if I can do anything else for you!

    Best of luck!

I’m a SEOmoz Pro member as well, and I am very happy about it. They provide great tools and articles that you don’t find anywhere else. Totally worth the cost!

Your timing on this could not have been better. I have been considering a SEOMoz membership for a while, but had not seriously considered until these past few days. Unfortunately none of my colleagues have a membership so I was going to wind up joining blindly. Your review was enough to sell me on it and I’ll probably join sometime next week.

I like that you threw out the concept of a members only blog, that would be a great extra perk for paid visitors. See you in the land of Moz!

Thanks everyone, I’m glad my reviewed helped you and I hope you enjoy your SEOmoz membership (if you end up signing up!) I should get commission!

@Danny - You do a great job with those checklists, I am eager to see the new ones you create.

  8. Jane Says:

Thanks for the great write-up! Believe it or not, we’ve thrown around the idea of a members-only blog section, or similar feature. I’ll bring it up again since it seems that people would like to have it.

  9. Dr. Pete Says:

I have to admit that I originally paid for SEOmoz membership as a way of giving back for the benefits I’ve gotten from the free side, but the paid tools have improved tremendously over the past year or so. Q&A itself is a huge value, as you mentioned, and the staff puts a lot of time into the paid guides as well. I also probably use the Page Strength tool about once/week, especially for smaller clients.

  10. Paul Caudell Says:

I’ve been using it for a few months now and I’ve found the Q & A a vgreat resource for questions that I’ve wanted to be answer but no one could anwser for me. The tools are a life saver for me even more so because you can see what the tools have previously reported.

    I love them!

  11. GlobalFusion Says:

Thanks for sharing your experience. Really appreciate an honest review. I’ve been considering becoming a Pro Member for a while, but haven’t really taken that final quantum leap. In fact, I was thinking about joining them this summer even though I am already a member of the SEOBook forum, which by the way it’s also a terrific community. So, it might be really interesting to have access to the best of two worlds.

    Cheers!

  12. Asia Says:

Thanks for the review on SEOMoz - I was a member in the past, but unsubscribed as things were a bit slow for me. But it sounds like they’ve added more stuff and I like Rand - I’ll give it a shot again.

  13. Dana Lookadoo Says:

I’ve been an SEOmoz Pro member since November. I have nothing but good to say, and I doubt I utilize half of the available tools and resources. It’s easy to get on SEOmoz overload, because there is so much activity and participation. Rand is open and honest and transparently shares best practices that are surely setting a standard for all of us. Each member of the SEOmoz team follows accordingly. It’s worth every dollar!

  14. Sean Hurley Says:

I have been doing SEO consulting now for a few years and have about 500 useful links in my del.icio.us account but am very interested in seeing what they have to offer which I can in return use on my clients.

Does anyone else have some good examples of the benefits?
